Eszter and I raced the GT for the first time this weekend. Despite getting passed by a hundred people on the hike/re-route due to private property issues/lack of snow, we pulled of 20th place out of 100-some-odd teams and 2nd in the coed division. Eszter has done very little skiing this year and no hiking/running. I am so proud of her ability to push herself through adversity. Probably 10 miles of hiking and 20 miles of skiing starting at 11PM and we finished a little after 9AM in Aspen. We had a great tour.

Really awesome to be able to compete with Eszter. Believe it or not, it was actually fun!
Two skiers that I have idolized over the years were racing coed as well. Really cool to meet them after looking at their site for years- Stuck in the Rockies
Breakfast with Ted and Christy Mahon. Yes, it was an awesome breakfast.
We had a great journey home with a pit-stop in Paonia.....
Unfortunately the weekend was over shadowed with some unfortunate accidents. A guy from CB was killed in an avalanche and we happened to be good friends with people on the trip. A short write up here- It was good to see people at the Brick Oven last night, I feel thankful for our wonderful friends.
These hit hard at home and our community in Crested Butte.
I put up a lot of photos of mountains to inspire and have received compliments on this website. We must always remember our own mortality in the mountains. I love climbing mountains, it is my passion. Death is something that is hard to understand, and this one really, really hurts.
more on the traverse later but I think we need a few days to recollect.
Cheers,
Chris
Great to meet you guys.
I won't ask know if you'll be doing the GT next year just yet. Let's wait until the snow starts to fly next season, after you and Eszter forget about the miserable bits, swollen feet, etc.
Now get on those bikes.

It looks like you had lots of fun there, no? I am so sorry for that guy killed in the avalanche. I also like skiing, especially the off-piste areas, but I am always very careful when it comes to avalanches.
