Something out of the ordinary happened this morning. Chris went back to work. On Monday, I'll do the same. The off-season is officially over, but what an off-season it has been! As I sit here, tying up loose-ends that have been loose-ends since we stopped working in April, I have to shake my head in amazement at some of the events that have transpired in the past eight weeks. From three weeks of camping in the desert, to Chris' big ski lines and traverses, to some of the paleo recipes that I've perfected...wow. And I've managed to avoid the biggest pitfall of the fun-employment based off-season - As Jeff Irwin so eloquently put it: The off-season - the perfect way to start your season off over-trained.
I've spent some time in the past week perusing the classified, thinking that a 'real' job might be a better scenario than the hodge-podge of work that I have lined up for the summer, but then I got to thinking: I pretty much need the entire month of August off...no real job is going to be cool with that. And then I've got the coaching thing in September and October...and then school starts back up and hopefully I can land some more teaching gigs. Real job...right. I guess when it comes down to it, I'll always pick a job with more flexibility than higher pay and stability, and I'm okay with that.
Today is our one-year anniversary here in CeeBee. One year ago, we packed a U-Haul full of stuff and ended up here in our little slice of paradise. The next morning, before we did anything, we went and rode Caves.
Last night, we did the same thing. We finished our life-maintanence for the day, put some bike clothes on, and went riding in our backyard. We came home, threw some bread in the oven, and headed down to some new CeeBee south neighbors for a little BBQ. We're still not fully sustainable here, but I'm full of optimism. Opportunities are starting to show themselves and I'm hopeful that when our lease runs out yet again, we'll be financially comfortable enough to sign it yet again.
Because I really like it here.
I'd love to hear more about your nutrition and the paleo thing and how it's worked for you if you're interested in sharing. Thanks!

Carey - Will do. Definitely have learned a lot and have lots more to learn. I've been meaning to do a post on it, maybe tomorrow.

Thanks Ez. BTW, I tried making your sweet potato cocoa cookies the other day, flavor very good, consistency not so good, so I added baking soda/powder (can't remember) and they rose a bit but still a little gooey/runny. Was that your experience as well, do you just need to let them cool completely which seemed to help? Thanks again! Have a great Friday!
