Chris and I have a ritual on work mornings. I take the dog out and inform Chris how far she made it before doing the frozen foot dance and running home. Then Chris starts the car and informs me what the car thermometer is reading. Then we drive down the hill together and watch the temperature plummet from whatever negative temperature it's reading, to an even lower negative temperature.
Today, Maia made it approximately 15 feet from the house before doing her business and running back to the front door like she was being drawn in by a tractor beam. The car thermometer read -22 F. But as we drove down the hill, the temperature stayed constant. Through Riverbend where the temperature always drops an additional couple degrees, the thermometer read a stubborn -22 F.
Then it dawned on us. -22 F is the lowest we've ever seen the car read, thus leading us to the conclusion that if was, in fact, many degrees below -22 F this morning, the car just couldn't read it. Reports have it in the upper -30's.
So after a day of work, where to be fair, the temperature rose to a balmy 10 F by the end of the day, the last thing I wanted to do was make good on my offer to skin Snodgrass after work. But as I was changing I thought about riding the trainer. While skiing, would I be wishing that I was on the trainer? Probably not. While on the trainer, would I be wishing I was skiing? Most likely. So I reworked my CTR motto of 'I could be at work right now' into 'I could be on the trainer right now' and up we went.
It was awfully purdy out.
The ski down was made especially exciting by the fact that Chris didn't have a headlamp and I didn't have goggles. We're pretty much professional ski mountaineers, ready for anything, especially a ski up the local, groomed, hill behind the resort.
When we started the car back up to go home, it read +22 F. By the time we got home, we were back to -7 F. Forecast is for a high in the 20's tomorrow. I can't wait.
How do you ever handle those temps??!! Brrrrr.........
