Great weekend. Spent time with old buddies last week. Great powder and good skiing with Eszter Saturday. Great time in the High peaks with Aaron...
I climbed up on a rocky pinnacle to get this shot. Unfortunatley on Monday Aaron got laid off. Yea shocking hugh? Maybe its because everyone knows how intelligent he is, and he maybe should be using his brain all day instead of his legs. Whatever the reason, weird day in the bike office. This morning it is cold, snowing, and Nan, Jason and myself will be holding down the fort. Great gathering of friends last night, all in support of Aaron. In the end its not that bad. Heard the word that a fellow that used to work for us died in his sleep- Matt Sawyer. Matt worked at DBC for a while and often saw him at the North Boulder Rec while picking deposits. Did not know him too well, but interacted with him week to week. Very nice dude, enthusiastic about mtb's. Matt had a health condition that was easily over looked because he just look so healthy. Like Mike said- 'health of yourself and your family is all that matters' which is so true. Thats why we climb mountains, to live with no regrets. The rest is all bullshit.
legs beat. Friday night I was feeling beat after a tough week at work. I had no idea how was going to ski. Bluebird skies with a stable snowpack, just had to indulge...
teaching Eszter to take shots with me ol camera- nice shot! Mounted so new skis that last week. a bit slimmer underfoot and a bit longer and lighter. I am more inclined to take them on a long tour, my old skis weighed as much as a road bike. they handle varible snow really well. They crunch crust, float powder, and really lets me open it up..
took some nice shots this wk. but mainly landscape. I was indulging so much I could not bother stopping for photos on the way down. Perfectly happy skiing a grand of vert at a time.
Saturday did a sweet spiny ridge climb. Spotted a new line I really want to do.
my tracks on the sat. you can see Eszter and Vee up in the ridge... they look like ants.
its funny to think of when redcoat and myself tried to descend that ridge on mountain bikes in the summer. Yesterday from the summit you could see citadel pretty well. I was wandering if any one was skiing it that day. Could not see with the naked eye but took a shot with the zoom lens. You can see tracks down the Northeast face, and figures on the ridge. I am planning on taking my highschool buddy liam down the couloir on the lookers right of summit buttress if the snow is set up. You gonna like that shit Lam!
Budy just got layed off, yikes. Shocked, concerned. Economy bad= little guys get squashed. Getting worked some, guess its good to have work. Definitely new challenges, good thing we got a good family of coworkers. I love the people I work with, and we just lost one. Some feel as if it should have been someone else, but can you really say that? dunno. Merica needs live more simply without the SUV's and simply wasteful living. Recession in merica still looks like heaven from the 3rd world. I feel more creative now without school- school had rules, politics, guidelines. Feel more like an artist than ever. I want to be more than just a bike messenger, but pedaling all day gives me so much freedom of thought, my visions are not crushed by anyone. Sometimes I suprise myself how good I am at my job, like a machine. My job skill, basically useless. Most of the time spent conserving energy for ski outings on the weekend, or that busy day. I get passed by fat dudes on mountain bikes regularly. when chips are down, I can beat any fossil fuel or donut fueled machine around town. Really excited to get film back from denver, dude says the film looks great. I hope I can get one solid film out this year that I can submit to a film fest. anywho cheers to those who got laid off, I am not far off. keep livin sucka.
pinch me?
The economy is finally starting affect cyclist who choose to live simply. DBC made the paper, along with Jon at the Bikesmith. Good to see that guy get some publicity, it is the only bike shop in Boulder that is not a sell out. Dude believes in bikes, lives bikes, rides bikes. daily scamera article
When you climb to the pristine snow filled cirque above rogers pass lake, 30-40 miles as the crow flies from gooney house in Boulder, everything else just seems like bullshit.
Nan, my hero, supports 3 kids on her courier wages. she has no bank account, no credit, but a lot of love. She is tough, and the economy will not affect her because she lives more simply than the rest of us. I asked if I could help her move, but she said she had no furniture to move. Just my HEAVY paintings. We will always climb mountains, and I will be inspired everytime I return to this cirque so close to home.
Eszter and I had a really good tour together. Looking back at our tracks we were like,"damn, that was us!"
Super chill at work today- presidents day. Spent 2 hours sitting in the sun with Nan enjoying the warm temps. Evan showed up, he was off on the pres day. Town was super chill. spent another hour trying to ride Aarons fixed gear in backwards circles. I get about 2, and then I get dizzy. Yea, it was a good day for the couriers. Somtimes we suffer, and sometimes, we just enjoy the Boulder sunshine. Aaron, Jason and I are all heading to a yurt 60miles north of Steamboat on Thurs. Pinch me?
