I went back to work today after a week to reintegrate. It was a week of playing, relaxing, even a little bit of riding and now it's time to do something useful, get serious about this recovery business, and reign in my daily trips to Third Bowl Icecream. I got coerced into trying the Whole30 plan, 30 days of clean eating as a preventative measure against the double digit weight gain that seems to plauge Divide racers. I start today, so I made the most of yesterday: Coffee (cream and sugar, yes please) and a Bachanalle donut for breakfast, chocolate for a post ride sitting in the car waiting out the rain treat, a scoop of cherry-goat cheese and a scoop of avocado-ginger icecream for a pre-dinner snack, sweet potato fries and a beer for social hour, and then two tacos with Chris for dinner. Moderation is not my strong point. I don't think I ate a single thing actually good for me.
But, I've got some plans for the fall which would be better served if I recovered quickly rather than slowly, like a little race through the night that I've yet to have a good ride at in September. Summer is young. There are trails to be ridden.
