Isaac skiing hero snow-
When I am working at the top of the mountain at Winter Park, I often look North to the Never Summer. I sent Isaac a text,"The Never Summer's look good." Isaac replies,"Do you want to make a trip?'
Isaac planned out a route while he was at work on Google Earth. A week later Isaac, Fred, and myself cram into Isaac's truck and Head North.
A donut or two later we were skinning Across the Colorado River valley.
After a few hours of bushwhacking through downed timber we gained a road cut. We cut the switchbacks of the road until we ended up in an odd avalanche run-out. Fred noted that a lot of the trees were up-rooted in the wrong direction for a slide. Twilight zone slide path.
After a bit of terrain management we broke from the trees.
Got a lot of spring descent Ideas. Couloirs galore. I think there is a way to ski this one from the summit-
link the up upper face with main couloir.
ridge climb to a Southeast ramp that we ski
The light was incredible for photo's. I spied a nice angle for pictures of people skiing the ramp. Fred wanted to shoot photos, so I traded the photo-op for first tracks down the center of the slope.
slope test- 700 lbs Elk
Isaac still going...
I do not have a GPS. But here is a Google map image that I drew on our ascent route in red, descent in blue. A lot of vertical.
can't wait until the next voyage to the Never Summer. Thinking about the possibility of a traverse of the range, hitting peaks and couloirs on the way.
Cheers,
Chris
